Hamburgers are beloved in American culture. From a standard all beef patty with cheese, lettuce and tomato, to chili con carne, you can find an abundance of culinary creativity between two sesame seed buns. I spent my first year in New York City romancing the beef. During this time, Café L’Amour was temporarily “closed”. But my love for food, and for burgers in particular, remained the same! In fact, I credit the darling burger for the special bonding time spent with my teenaged son and young adult daughter. Juicier still, the burger is the conduit for bringing a fellow burger lover and me together. We have experienced some fun foodgasms!! The combined NYC hamburger crawl covers burger joints from Harlem Shake in Harlem to Shake Shack in Madison Square, totaling 18 unique visits (this does not include the common national fast-food burger chains nor repeat visits). As much as I enjoyed running through the City eating burgers, the best burger in town was flamed broiled on a grill in the backyard of yours truly. Café L’Amour is my experimental aphrodisiac test kitchen. Through the study of aphrodesia and the art of seduction, this blog explores the relationship between food and sensuality and how it can arouse and enhance sexuality or simply make one feel the power of love. I fell in love spending time with my children while we stuffed our faces burger and again. I also made a new friend. There is no doubt that eating together creates strong bonds. What makes food a turn on, is your association. Traditionally, hamburgers are not considered an aphrodisiac, but for me, they fan the flames of my passion!

Honey L’Amour’s Best Burger in Town Recipe
2 lbs of ground beef
1 of head of iceberg lettuce
red onion, thinly sliced
1 red vine tomato, thinly sliced
Sliced cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of onion powder
1 heaping tablespoon of crushed garlic
1 tablespoon of McCormicks Montreal Steak Seasoning
2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon of Maggi sauce
2 teaspoons of liquid smoke
In a medium mixing bowl, season beef with all spices and sauces making sure to incorporate all of the flavors very well; form patty sizes according to your appetite. Separately, prepare the vegetables to dress your burger.
Prepare your charcoal grill and toss the patties on! I like my burgers medium rare. Use your meat thermometer to check the temperature of doneness according to your likeness:
Rare 125 + 3 minutes rest
Medium Rare 130 – 135
Medium 135 – 140
Medium Well 140 – 150
Well Done 155+
Butter the buns and lightly toast, add favorite condiments, place patty in between and plate.
Pair with a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade, red wine or an ice cold beer and ENJOY!
