Second only to my epic move to NYC is the grand stand I took with my hair. I did the “big chop”! The recent movement among
American Black women is to embrace our natural hair as attractive and sexy. Historically, we have been made to feel ugly and undesirable because our natural hair texture does not fit the mold of beauty in American society. For as long as I care to remember, I have “fried, died and laid my hair to the side”, I called this, “getting silky”. At the first sign of any new growth, I immediately got silky. This expression of self-hate goes against my very virtues as a seductress. I am bent on destroying all things that do not align with true love of self. For weeks, I anxiously waited for my appointment at the legendary Miss Jessie’s hair salon in Soho. The owners, Titi and Miko, are experts in natural hair, and it was in their trust that the deed was done. The Goddess of Beauty shined on me that day as Miko did the honors. She normally only tends to her celebrity clientele, I felt the universe had shifted just for me to be afforded such an honor. The “big chop” is bold. I’m bold. I’m living a bold life of owning my flaws even as I flaunt my assets, of seeing the beauty in everything and especially in myself.
For more on the lifestyle of a sacred seductress, read Kitty Cavalier’s new book, “Sacred Seduction: A guidebook, memoir and tribute to the art of seduction”, it beautifully articulates the virtues of a sacred seductress. It is through self-love and seeing the beauty in everything that allows me to LIVE LIFE AS A LOVE AFFAIR. This affair inspired me to celebrate my new attitude about my new “hair do” as I would celebrate any monumental event with a lover. I recreated a classic dessert, chocolate mousse. This sophisticated dessert best represents my new look. Its velvety texture reminds me of the curls that whirl about my tapered head. The sensual dark chocolate is undeniably sexy, I spiced it up with a subtle touch of red hot chili pepper to give it that extra edge and for kicks, I added a little kinky taste of drunken cherries as the base.
My sexy chocolate mousse is rich and is for people who love living a luscious, spicy life. Make some for yourself and for whomever and for whatever you love. The recipe is below.
Next week I dive into the mystery of the queen aphrodisiac, cacao, in an all-out chocolate obsession!
Until then, feed your sensual appetite.

SEXY CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
- 5 ounces of Ghirardelli 72% Cacao, Intense Dark, Twilight Delight
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1/8 cup of coffee, hot
- 1/8 teaspoon of ground dried red pepper
- 1 tiny pinch of salt
- 1 large brown egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, chilled
- 32 or so fresh cherries, pitted
- 1/2 cup of bourbon – Four Roses, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- 1/4 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Nightcap – L’Amour Manhattan:
- 1 1/2 ounces of Four Roses (bourbon)
- 1 ounce of sweet vermouth
- 1 dash of bitters
Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and serve up with a few drunken cherries in the bottom.
Clean and pit your cherries. Set them in a bowl. In a sauce pan, whisk together your bourbon and sugars, add in the cinnamon sticks. Bring to a boil, and then simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved. Remove the cinnamon sticks from the mixture, and then pour it over the cherries. Stir to combine and allow the cherries and liquid to come to room temperature and refrigerate over overnight.
Bring a saucepan of water to a simmer over low heat. Place chocolate, butter, 2 tablespoons of coffee, ground red pepper, and salt in a heatproof bowl, set bowl over the simmer water. When the butter melts, whisk the chocolate mixture gently until smooth and shiny. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
Whisk egg yolks and sugar in another heatproof bowl over the same pan of simmering water until egg yolk mixture is foamy and hot to the touch, about 3 minutes; pour hot egg mixture into warm chocolate mixture, whisk until smooth, and set over a bowl of ice to chill. Whisk constantly until mixture has cooled to room temperature or slightly cooler.
Pour a 1/2 cup of cold whipping cream into a chilled metal bowl, whisk until cream holds soft peaks. Place about 1/2 of the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate mixture, gently fold the cream into the chocolate. Repeat with remaining half of whipped cream, folding gently until nearly all the streaks have disappeared. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
To serve, place a tablespoon of the drunken cherries at the bottom of 4 martini glasses, and pipe chocolate mousse through a star tipped baker’s bag in a circular motion until martini glass is filled. Top with a dollop of whipped cream, sprinkle with shaved chocolate and place a maraschino cherry on top.
